Are you getting things done?
Well, guys. Last week I started guinea-pigging for a time-management/sort-your-life-out/gung-ho-executive-philosophy called GTD (Getting Things Done).
Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration - it's really about having your mind clear and free of nagging 'to-do's' so that you can get on with your life instead.
This is a system devised by a guy called David Allen in the US which has achieved a cult-like status, particularly amongst IT professionals (geeks).
It's all about actually "getting things done" as opposed to spending lots of time developing a system that might help you get some things done... ...maybe... ...if you can ever remember to use the system properly for more than an hour.
Well, if you go to the David Allen website www.davidco.com there's loads of stuff you can download for free that will help you get started. I've picked up enough to start off using his methods, and it's been so useful so far, that I've decided to buy the book Getting Things Done (currently on 3 for 2 at Waterstones).
So, without boring you with the details of how it works - is it having any effect?
The answer is 'I think so'. I'm not panicking so much and I've reduced the feeling of overwhelm that sometimes follows me like a cloud of mosquitoes. Also, I think I am actually getting more things done, and as that's the title of the book, it seems like a good thing!
Watch this space for further updates, or Google "GTD Blog" to see what other people are saying about this system.
