Sad news and happy news

Hi people,

I know it's been a bit quiet here over the past 2 weeks, but there's a good reason for that.

Basically, I've been pining as we had to have our lovely cat, Bob, put down very recently. The poor thing got really ill with no hope of recovery, so it was the very best that we could do. However, that doesn't make it any easier to go through, and we're still really missing his little black whiskery face.

We'll probably be getting another pet soon though. For us, our home doesn't feel complete without a little animal to keep us company, and I'm sure many of you feel the same way.

I just want to make sure that we don't leave it too long, before we do get another one. This is for 2 reasons:

- Firstly, the longer you take, the more difficult it can be to welcome a new animal into your life. This is especially true if you really miss the old one, like we do. Some people even get to the point where it is more painful to have a new pet, because they've dwelt on the memory of the old one for so very long.

- Secondly, there are all sorts of dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs or whatever, sat in cages in animal rescue centres around the country. If we take an extra month to go and choose one of them to come home with us, that's an extra month they're sat in that cage getting more distressed, and an extra month that the rescue centre has to pay for their keep, and one less months-worth of money  that they have to spend on another poor creature who needs help.

So, I've decided that me and the husband are going off to Battersea Dogs Home www.dogshome.org this weekend, and we'll see if there's a somebody there who'd like to come home with us.

He wants to get a cat, and I'd like to get a cat AND a dog (as you may previously have read here!), so we'll have to see what happens. Watch this space!

For those of you that can't, or don't want to, have a pet, you can still support organisations like Battersea Dogs Home at no cost to yourself, by using their search engine. Every time you use it to search, money is donated to the charity (other charities can use this service too). Go to the dog's home website and click on 'fundraising' for more details.

Take care, and have a great weekend,

Tam
